David L. Schafer, 62 of Lisbon, North Dakota, died Saturday, October 12, 2019 in Fargo, North Dakota, at his daughter’s home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Dave was born on September 16, 1957, the son of LuVerne and Viola (Noe) Schafer in Fargo, North Dakota. He was raised and educated in Lisbon. Shortly after high School, Dave worked at Melroe Bobcat for a year and later became a brick tender for Jones Masonry. Dave then went to work at the Butzville Elevator for ten years where he was assistant manager, eventually he took the manager position at the elevator in Anslem, North Dakota. After six years in Anselm, he began his career at the Ransom County Highway Department where he worked for almost thirty years. He recently retired due to his failing health.
Dave was a volunteer on the Lisbon Fire Department for fifteen years and would eventually serve as fire chief for the rural and the city fire department during his time of service. He enjoyed playing pool, was interested in antique cars and was a huge Bison fan, especially football. Dave cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren.
Dave is survived by his son and grandchildren, Christopher (Dana Hanson) Schafer of West Fargo, ND; and Kolton, Karson and Coley; his daughter and grandchildren, Jennifer (Chad Blakley) Schafer of Fargo, ND; and Bayley, Brystal and Jaiden; siblings, Cheryl Schafer of West, Fargo, ND; Dan (Renee) Thompson of Lisbon, ND; Mike (Brenda Bjugstad) Thompson of Lisbon, ND; Bonnie Thompson of Dickinson, ND; Lori Thompson of Fargo, ND; Scott (Jennifer) Thompson of Ottertail, MN; numerous nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, LuVerne Schafer, Viola and Layton Thompson and son, Cody Joe Schafer.
