Donald Lewis Hallquist, 59 of Lisbon, North Dakota passed away in the presence of his son, mother and step-father on Monday, December 17, 2018 following a courageous battle with cancer.
Donald was born on February 23, 1959, the son of Bernice and Donald (Bud) Hallquist. He grew up in Lisbon and graduated from Lisbon High School in 1977. Following graduation, Donald enlisted in the United States Army, where he served from August 20, 1977 to March 29, 1979. After receiving an honorable discharge, he began driving truck, an occupation he enjoyed for several years. Donald worked in various industries, including agriculture, mining and construction.
On June 11, 1992, Donald married Susan Jodsaas in Yuma, Arizona. They welcomed their son, Michael into the world. They later divorced, but remained friends. Donald was a very caring man, always willing to help others. He had a kind heart and was devoted to his family.
Donald was blessed with many talents, including mechanical creativity. He was able to drive and fix any vehicle, from small golf carts to large mining vehicles. He enjoyed working with his hands and recently built a beautiful cradle for his great niece as well as a cool barn for his great nephew.
Donald is survived by his son, Michael Hallquist; his mother, Bernice (Harold Dick); his sisters, Holly Lyons, Paula Backs and Sherry Hallquist; and his brother, David (Jacqui) Hallquist. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his father, Donald (Bud) Hallquist and his brother-in-law, Dennis Lyons.
The family of Donald is very grateful to wonderful friends and the caring staff of Hospice.
