Elaine G. Qual, 90 of Lisbon, North Dakota, died Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the North Dakota Veterans Home, Lisbon, North Dakota.
Elaine was born on March 23, 1928 one of ten children born to Gabriel "Gibby" and Mary (Odlund) Albertson in the Aliceton Township of Ransom County, North Dakota. There were also four older siblings born to Gibby and Elisabeth "Mary" (Jensen) Albertson.
Elaine attended country school in Aliceton Township and later Lisbon, where she graduated from Lisbon High School in 1946. After high school she worked at Farmers State Bank until 1947, when Elaine attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis for two years. She returned to Lisbon and was united in marriage to Louis “Bud” Qual on May 27, 1950. They made their home in rural Lisbon on the Qual Dairy farm.
Elaine took an active role in the daily operation of the farm, especially making sure everyone was well fed. She was a great cook and shared that with not only her family, but everyone who worked on the farm. After Bud’s passing in 1989, she married Stephen Groth in 1992.
Elaine was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and later joined Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. She was also active with the Aliceton Homemakers Club, Ruth Circle, American Legion Auxiliary, Ransom County Garden Club and the Eagles Auxiliary. Elaine started the Holiday Gift Shop at the North Dakota Veterans Home and completed the Bethel Bible Series, both of which she was very proud. She also sold Avon and Amway for many years.
Elaine is survived by her children, Alan (Julie) Qual of Lisbon, ND; Danny (Carletta) Qual of Fargo, ND; Kristen (Larry) Schoeszler of Sioux Falls, SD and Rodney (Angela) Qual of Lisbon, ND; nine grandchildren, Jonathan (Courtney) Qual, Mark (Angela) Qual, Matthew Qual, Andrea Qual, Janna (Nathan) Davis, Carrie (Jordan) Buren, Amanda (Adam) Randash, Tyler (Karlie) Qual and Nathan (Paige) Qual; twelve great-grandchildren, niece Susan (Joe) Seelye of Cogswell, ND and nephew Bruce (Chris) Sundin of Kansas City, MO; sister, Mary Ann Moll of Brainerd, MN; sister-in-law Betty Nelson of Kansas City, KS; numerous nieces and nephews.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Louis “Bud” Qual (1989), Stephen Groth (1999), five brothers and seven sisters.
