Elroy Duane Haarsager

Elroy Duane Haarsager, 80 of Fort Ransom, North Dakota died Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Essentia Health, Fargo, North Dakota.

Elroy was born on January 21, 1939 to Justin and Hannah (Slattum) Haarsager in Marion, North Dakota. He was raised on a farm south of Litchville where he attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Fort Ransom High School. On June 10, 1961 Elroy and Carol Kornelius were married at Standing Rock Lutheran Church in Fort Ransom and have lived in the area since their marriage. Elroy worked on the family farm and for Ken Grothe at Ken’s Service in Fort Ransom. After retiring from farming, Elroy and Carol owned the One Stop in Fort Ransom.

Elroy loved having a good time with friends and family. He was on pool and bowling teams. Elroy enjoyed playing pinochle, canasta, going camping, snowmobiling, polka music with Molly B. and meeting friends for happy hour. He was also a member of Fort Ransom Wildlife Club, Standing Rock Lutheran Church and served as a Fort Ransom Township officer for many years. Elroy was always ready with a smile and a helping hand. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Elroy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol Haarsager, his children, Michele (Terry) Boll, Todd (Kim) Haarsager and Wendi (Michael) Lawson; eight grandchildren, Nathan (Samantha) Boll, Nicholas (Kristin) Boll, Stephanie (Warren) Johnson, Shannon Haarsager, Eric Haarsager, Hannah Lawson, Hunter Lawson and Gunnar Lawson; four great-grandchildren, Delilah and Odin Johnson, Baylor and Raegan Boll; siblings, Harvey (Sharon) Haarsager, Larry (Dora) Haarsager and Audrey Pittsley; sisters-in-law, Maree Lou (Douglas) Larson, Jean (Gene) McManigle, Elaine (Dennis) Wadeson and brother-in-law, Leroy (Donna) Kornelius; many nieces and nephews.

Elroy was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Estelle and Marlyn Bruse, brother, Maynard Haarsager and brother-in-law, Verne Pittsley.

Interment: Standing Rock Cemetery, Fort Ransom, ND
