Evelyn Gertrude Hitchcock, 102 of Lisbon, North Dakota died Thursday, March 7, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at CHI Lisbon Health, Lisbon, North Dakota.
Evelyn was born on November 22, 1916 the youngest of nine children to Gustaf and Elna (Nilsson) Holmgren in Lisbon, North Dakota. She was baptized on December 6, 1916 at Whitestone Hill Lutheran Church, rural Sargent County. She attended Aliceton Township School until the age of 9, when her family moved to Lisbon. Evelyn became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in 1925 and was confirmed in 1929. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1935. Evelyn was a licensed Cosmetologist and Beautician.
Evelyn met the love of her life at a Golden Rule Day Dance. She was united in marriage to Charles Maynard Hitchcock on January 22, 1938 at the Trinity Lutheran Church Parsonage in Lisbon. They made their home in rural Lisbon, Tuller Township, where she was active in the daily operation of the farm. She worked at Ben Franklin and was a Shaklee Distributor.
Evelyn enjoyed quilting, gardening, dancing, playing cards, making apple pies from her apple trees and spending time with her friends and family. She was a longtime member Trinity Lutheran Church, Naomi Circle, forty-year Trinity Lutheran Choir member, thirty-year Stars and Stripes 4H club leader, Buttzville Homemakers, Tuller Birthday Club, Ransom County Farmers Union, Lisbon Senior Citizens, Hand and Foot Card Club, Aliceton Holmgren Pioneer Cemetery, Whitestone Hill Cemetery Committee, Ransom County Fair volunteer, participated in CHI cardiac rehab and Ransom County Relay for Life as a cancer survivor.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Gail (Mike) Palmer, Phyllis (Gary) Olson, Charles Hitchcock and Sheryl (Virgil) Dagman; twelve grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maynard (2000); daughter-in-law, Suzanna (Nelson) Hitchcock; siblings (who died during infancy): Nial, Esther and Helen; siblings and in-laws, Henry (Mildred Parmeter), Edith (John Strandberg & Clarence Anderson), Esther (Pete Miller), Neil (Lilly Ferch) and Edna (Johnny Newman).
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon, ND
