Florence Ann (Kapaun) McMahon

Florence Ann McMahon, 100 of Alice, North Dakota died Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin, North Dakota.

Florence was born on November 4, 1918, the daughter of Joseph and Ida (Wavra) Kapaun in Clifton Township of Cass County, North Dakota. Florence grew up on the family farm near Alice, attending Clifton Township School, graduating Alice High School. She graduated from North Dakota Agricultural College in 1940. Florence taught at Alice and Lisbon High Schools and then moved to Los Angeles, Calif. She met and married James McMahon. They returned to N.D., purchasing the Kapaun Bros. GeneralmStore in Alice. Florence and Jim operated The Alice Fairway Store, raising 4 children, Dennis, Darrel, Mary and Ann. During this time Florence taught part time at Buffalo High School, to supplement the family income. James passed away in 1969. Florence closed the store in 1969, and returned to teaching at. Enderlin Public Schools, continuing in both full and part time capacity for many years. In retirement, Florence enjoyed traveling as well as volunteering in child care and at the local library. She moved to an apartment in Gwinner, N.D. In 2014, Florence became a resident at N. D. Veteran’s Home. She then moved to MaryHill Manor at Enderlin, where she lived out the remainder of her days.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James, son-in-law, Craig Galbreath, granddaughter-in-law, Ginger McMahon, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred (Kapaun) Kinzler and Howard Kinzler and Lorraine (Kapaun) Mckinnon and MAC (Gaylord) McKinnon.

Florence is survived by her children, Dennis McMahon of Canyon City, CO; Darrell (Teresa) McMahon of Twin Falls, ID; Mary Galbreath of Edgeley, ND; Ann (Paul) Romsdahl of Brandon, SD; 12 grandchildren, Lisa (Steve) Ainsley, James (Molly) McMahon, Phillip and Danny McMahon, Tommy (Holly) McMahon, Erik (Kristi) Romsdahl, Dane Romsdahl,  Aaron (Tana) Galbreath, Benjamin (Carrie) Galbreath, Collin and Justin Galbreath, Megan (Jackson) Tuck; 13 great-grandchildren, Nicole, Heather, Amanda, Allison, Ethan, Nolan, Archer, Justice, Avery, Strider, Conner, Izak and Konner; special friends, Erlanne, Deanna and Gloria; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
