Ila A. (Muilenburg) Billing

Ila A. Billing, 97 of Enderlin, North Dakota passed away on August 13, 2019 at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin, North Dakota.

Ila was born on October 10, 1921 in Melvin, Iowa to John and Bertha (Lyman) Muilenburg. At 7 years old, the family moved to Verona, North Dakota. She attended and graduated from Cleveland Consolidated School in 1938.

After working 2 ½ years at J.C. Penny’s in Lisbon, Ila married Walfred Billing on July 5, 1942 at her parent’s farm south of Enderlin. In 1944, they moved to a farm south of Enderlin, where they lived until 2005, when they moved to an apartment in Enderlin. They were blessed with 71 years of marriage, Wally passed away in 2014. Ila resided in Maryhill Manor from 2016 until her passing.

On the farm, Ila loved her garden and flowers. Ila helped with the farm work; milking cows, harvesting and wherever help was needed. She also raised and sold chickens. Ila was a long time 4-H leader; also helping with the Ransom County Fair with entries and judging.

Ila was baptized on September 2, 1923 in Melvin, Iowa and confirmed on August 15, 1943 at West St. Olaf Church in rural Enderlin. Ila was strong in her faith and active in church. She was active in WELCA, Circle, Bible Study, Quilting, taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir.

Ila and Wally enjoyed dancing, playing cards, games, dominos and attending family sporting events, concerts, recitals, etc. Ila did a lot of sewing and patching and made quilts and afghans for all family members. While at Maryhill, she completed 56 word search books. Ila was caring, loving and generous person. Special to Ila were her friends from TOPS.

Ila is survived by sons, David (Joyce) Billing and Daniel (Nancy) Billing; son-in-law, James (Joyce) Ekeren; eight grandchildren, John (Rob Vivian) Billing, Jodi (John) Bjornson, Paul (Farrah) Billing, Tracy (Andrew Bartholomay) Ekeren, Emily (Brent) Wolf, Jeremy Jacobson, Danielle Billing and Katrina Billing; twelve great-grandchildren, Andrew Bjornson, Abby Bjornson, Amethyst Billing, Ella Billing, Dalton Anderson, Gavin Wolf, Raelee Bartholomay, Brenan Bartholomay, Drake Jacobson, Angelina Bjerke, Arianna Majewski and Elizabeth Jacobson; several nieces and nephews.

Ila was preceded in death by parents, husband, Wally, daughter, Mary Beth Ekeren, brothers, LeRoy (Alice) Muilenburg and Wayne(Marlys) Muilenburg.

Visitation: Friday, August 16, 2019 from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, Enderlin, ND with a time of sharing at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Service: Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Enderlin, ND

Interment: Enderlin City Cemetery, Enderlin, ND
