Beverly June (Johnson) Huseby

Beverly June (Johnson) Huseby, 89, passed away on August 24, 2019, at Maryhill Manor in Enderlin, ND.  She was born on September 1, 1929, to Esther (Olson) Johnson and Lawrence Johnson near Upham, ND, on the McHenry County homestead of her maternal great-grandparents.

When it was time for Beverly to start 1st grade, she and her parents were living in Spokane, WA, where her father worked in the hotel industry. They later returned to their Upham community and purchased a farm. Beverly attended the local country school through the eighth grade, and her high school years were at Sheyenne River Academy, a boarding school near Harvey, ND.  After her graduation, she went on to attend college in Minot.  There she earned a 2-year teacher’s certificate; she taught for a year at a country school near Glenburn, ND.  Her next teaching position was in Barnes County at a little town called Eastedge. There she met Arville Huseby.  He worked for Lloyd Forness, a local farmer.  They lived on his farm after they were married July 16, 1951, in Minot, ND.

Later, Beverly and Arville moved to the Johnson family homestead near Deering, ND, where they had their first child, Craig.  Next they moved to Thief River Falls, MN. Tragically, their house burned, and they decided to move to Lucca, ND.  They experienced another house fire while living in Lucca and had to move again. This time to a house in Enderlin.

Arville and Beverly divorced, but Beverly maintained her Enderlin home and supplemented her income selling Avon.  When she could no longer live safely alone, she moved in with her daughter, Denise, and son-in-law Donnie.  She lived a few years with them, before having to move to Maryhill Manor, where she passed, just seven days short of her 90th birthday.

Beverly enjoyed music, playing the piano, crocheting and ceramics.  Her family and friends have many mementos of her handiwork. She held several offices in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she was a life-long member.

She is survived by her younger sister, Ardelle (John) Engstrom, Pasco, WA; her children,  Craig Huseby, Denise Jahner, Delaine Huseby and June Huseby, all of Enderlin, ND;  grandchildren, Angela (Wyatt) Fernow and Brodie (Julia) Jahner, both of Enderlin, ND; two great-grandchildren, Angelina and Ares Jahner; niece Celeste Graves and her four children; niece Heather (Clayton) Reed; and nephew, Brent Engstrom. She is predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Esther Johnson; a son, Elroy Huseby, her former husband, Arville Huseby, and son-in-law, Don Jahner. Her immediate family and many cousins will mourn her passing.
