Carol Mae (VanDeusen) Spiekermeier

Carol Mae Spiekermeier, 61, Sheldon, ND, died on February 25, 2020, in her home at Sheldon with her husband and children at her side. End of life care was also provided by Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Carol Mae VanDeusen was born on March 17, 1958, in Lisbon, ND, to John and Mae VanDeusen of Enderlin, ND, where she attended and graduated from Enderlin Public School in 1976.

Carol married Rob Spiekermeier of Sheldon, ND, on October 16, 1976. They made their home on the family farm and had children John, Lauren, and Dana.

She worked for Larry Tosseth Insurance when the children were small and went to work for Rick Taylor at the Sheldon Farmers Elevator in 1984, and later at Plains Grain & Agronomy in Enderlin, retiring in 2019. Carol was a loyal, trustworthy, and tireless worker for 35 years­­. She was a true go-to-person who could handle any task, beginning by doing all books by hand, transitioning to technology and the rapidly changing industry.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mae VanDeusen, sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Steve McGrath, and sister Dianne (Mike) Jordet. She is survived by her sister Judy (David) Thompson, brother Ron (Janelle) VanDeusen, husband Rob Spiekermeier, son John (Joanna) Spiekermeier, daughter Lauren (Josh) Lemnus, daughter Dana (Matthew) Anderson, and seven grandchildren: Bradyn, Luke, Gabry, Isaac, Micah, Jackson, and Makenna Mae (her darling Shoobie).

Carol loved to travel and loved her Jeeps—she was content when the wheels were rolling! She craved the mountains and outdoors. Later in life, her Minnesota lake home ­was her true joy; her days there with her family and grandchildren were her fulfillment.
