Curtis D. Hoiland, 79 of Gwinner, North Dakota died on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, North Dakota.
Curt was born on May 2, 1939, the son of Norman and Josephine (Rudser) Hoiland in Devils Lake, North Dakota. He was raised in Jamestown until his family moved to Gwinner in 1951. Curt played saxophone and clarinet, a talent he shared with many after playing with the North Dakota National Guard Band. Curt graduated from Gwinner High School in 1957. As a young man, Curt served in the North Dakota National Guard for a few years. Curt was united in marriage to Lila Neil on February 14, 1970 in Gwinner. He worked at the local creamery for a while, before starting his 38-year career with Melroe-Bobcat as a truck driver.
Curt enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding and in his younger years competed in the drag races in Sabin, Minnesota. He was also a member of the car club and Post 191 American Legion, Gwinner. Curt loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Curt is survived by his sons, Dale (Linda) Neil of Sheboygan, WI; Rick Neil of West Fargo, ND; son-in-law, Russell Turchin of Gwinner, ND; six grandchildren, Marty (Dawn) Turchin, Katina (Keith) Peterson, Kelli (Jeremy) Close, Jake Chesley, Zach Neil and Meagen Neil; six great-grandchildren, Kyle Peterson, Cole Turchin, Kailee Peterson, Sage Turchin, Liam Close and Porter Close; sister, Cheryl Odegard of Wiggins, CO; two nieces and two nephews.
Curt was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lila (1999), daughter, Lanette Turchin (2016) and brother, Kenneth Hoiland.
Interment: Gwinner City Cemetery, Gwinner, ND
