Donald N Olson

Donald Nels Olson, age 87, died Tuesday, November 10, 2020, in Lisbon North Dakota. Donnie was born in rural Lisbon to Nels and Adeline (Janacek) Olson on January 13, 1933.

He grew up on a farm south of Lisbon. He attended a country school and then went on to Lisbon High School for two years, leaving at the age of 16 to take over the family farm. He continued farming for many years, while also working at J.N. Johnson Seedhouse, Melroe and Republic Insurance.

On June 17, 1951, Donnie and Janice Lajoy Herzog were married in Lisbon. They had five children: Douglas, Joy, John, Daryl, and Danny.

Donnie had a passion for farming the land and never truly retired from it. He loved fishing, boating, and spending time at the cabin. Driving to see the country, spending winters in Arizona, sweets and baked goods were some of his favorites. Donnie was a socializer. He could talk to anyone. He was always up for a good debate or some bartering. The last few years, Donnie became limited with his mobility but purchased a scooter and a handicap van and continued to live life to the fullest. His family and friends meant a lot to him.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Janice, and his brother Gary (Phyllis) Olson of Fargo, his children Joy (Cliff) Tooley, Lisbon ND, John (Karen) Olson, Alexandria MN, Daryl (Lori) Olson, Lisbon ND, Danny (Rachael) Olson, Lisbon ND, grandchildren: Sarah Harrison, Jen Tooley, Jesse Tooley, Jamie Tooley, Jadon Olson, Morgan Olson, Grant Olson, Lacie Olson and eight great grandchildren.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Goldie Bott and Vonnie Steele, brothers Clifford and Willis Olson, son Douglas Olson, and great grandson Alex Wall.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon, North Dakota.

There will be a private family service on Saturday, November 14, 2020, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon, North Dakota.
