Donald Sweet Obituary

Donald Duane Sweet, 85 of rural Lisbon, North Dakota died Monday, December 2, 2019 at his home under the care of CHI Hospice.

Don was the first born of Vernon and Pearl (Jorgenson) Sweet in rural Lisbon, North Dakota. He received his education in Lisbon and as a young man began farming/ranching with his father on the family homestead. Eventually after his father passed away, Don would continue to operate the family homestead with his brother, Jack. Don was united in marriage to Pearl Johnson on September 14, 1958 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisbon. They made their home on the family homestead until 1963, when they moved west of town to begin his own farm and ranch. Even though he started his own ranch, Don still had a close working relationship with his brother, Jack. He also served in the ND National Guard for 10 years during this time. Don’s greatest joy in life was working on the ranch with his horses.

Don was active in Fort Ransom Sod Buster Association, Fort Ransom Cavalry, and Fort Ransom Arena Association. He also was a board member for the Centennial Wagon Trail ride in 1989, a trustee for the ND Cowboy Hall of Fame and a Brand Inspector for 30 yrs. Don was active in rodeos throughout his life and was a rodeo stock contractor for 60 years.

Don is survived by his wife, Pearl Sweet; daughter, Becky Sweet and son, Clint Sweet both of Lisbon, ND; three grandchildren, Bailey Sad, Taylon Sad and Cole Sweet; two brothers, Gerald (Kaye) Sweet, Jack (Donna) Sweet; five sisters, Joyce Penberthy, Elaine (Leroy) Dick, Linda (Matthew) Kidd, Norma (Joe) Roll and Sandy (Larry) Schultz; numerous nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and sister and brother-in-law, Marlys and Carl Johnson.
