Dwight Frank Bireley

Dwight Frank Bireley 95 of the ND Veterans Home in Lisbon died at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fargo on Tuesday February 5, 2019.

Dwight was born on Nov 2, 1923 in Fargo, ND the son of Myrtle Irene (Dammen) Bireley and Frank William Bireley.  He attended grade and high school in Fargo graduating from Fargo Central High School in 1943.

Dwight served in the US Army as a member of the 88th Infantry Division “Fighting Blue Devils” in North Africa and Italy from 1943 – 1945 during which time he earned a number of medals including the Bronze Star.  After his service he attended technical school and worked for many years as a bookkeeper/accountant for ASP construction and the NDSU library.

Except for his military service Dwight was a lifelong resident of Fargo, ND taking care of his parents as well as his brother Douglas.  In 2000 he moved to the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon where the staff and residents became his “family”.  Dwight loved to support activities at the Veterans home including bingo and special meals for his family, residents and staff on “special days”.

Family was important to Dwight and he will be missed by his niece Gail (Kevin) Brennan, nephews Patrick (Beverly) Rath and Jeffery Rath. Great nieces Naomi (Dan) Fuller, Heide Hartfield, Trina (Tim) Staloch, Trevor Brennan, Timothy (Laura) Rath, Sarah (Grayson) Rentz and Elizabeth (Andrew) Liming and Great Great nephews Tatum Hartfield, Darby Olson, Riley Olson, Oliver Rentz and Sullivan Liming and Great Great Step nieces and nephew Mackenzie, Sean and Emelia Fuller.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents and sister Dolores Rath, brothers Douglas Bireley and Donald Bireley (who died as an infant).
