Erma J. Printz

Erma J. Printz, 93, of Lisbon, ND died Sunday, December 22nd under the wonderful care of the staff at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin and CHI Hospice.

Erma Hoenhause was born August 22, 1926 at Becker, MN to Max and Helen (Jaschke) Hoenhause. She graduated from Oakes High School in 1945. Following graduation, she worked for Northwestern Bell telephone in Oakes until resigning in October of 1949 to marry Ernest J. (Bud) Printz on December 3, 1949.

Erma and Bud made their home on the E. L. Printz farm near Crete until purchasing a farm of their own about 5 miles northwest of Lisbon in 1954.  Erma was a “stay-at-home” mom, raising their two sons, helping with the farm chores, and staying involved by teaching Sunday School at First United Methodist Church, playing cards with the neighbors, and participating in monthly meetings of the Tuller Township Birthday Club.

Following the death of her husband in November of 1971, Erma purchased lots in Lisbon and with support from her brother Myles Hoenhause and family, moved the house and garage from the farm into town. Erma went to work as a receptionist for Ransom County Social Services. She retired in 1991 after 20 years of service. Following retirement, she served as chair of the Ransom County Food Pantry and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Erma’s hobbies included bowling in multiple leagues (she once bowled a 294 game), knitting, crocheting, sewing, painting, ceramics, lawn work, walking, and playing cards with friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, oldest son James B., and siblings Charles Hoenhause, Lucile Wilke, Myles Hoenhause, Madeline Schultz, Maxine Brown, Irene Henjum, Lorraine Hoenhause, and Bernice Backlin. She is survived by her son Jeff Printz (Bernadette Braun), Lisbon, grandson Jesse Printz, Lisbon, granddaughter Cody Printz, Fairmount, ND, and great grandson Reece Berry, Fargo, ND.
