Jerome “Jerry” A. Engstrom, 74 of Enderlin, North Dakota died Monday, December 24, 2018 at CHI Lisbon Health, Lisbon, North Dakota.
Jerry was born on November 7, 1944, the son of Arthur and Gladys (Moberg) Engstrom in Fargo, North Dakota. He was raised and educated in Fargo, graduating from Fargo Central High School in 1962. Jerry then attended four years at NDSU until he enlisted in the United States Army serving from October 31, 1966 – October 29, 1968. Upon his return home he worked as an insurance adjuster, until Jerry started his career with the SooLine Railroad. He was united in marriage to Elva Berglund on December 18, 1976 at First Lutheran Church, Enderlin.
They made their home in Enderlin, where they raised their three children. Jerry retired from the railroad as a conductor in 2003 and started working with the Enderlin Independent serving as the sports writer and photographer. He covered many sporting events throughout the years which he truly enjoyed.
Jerry enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and taking care of his yard, especially mowing the yard.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Elva Engstrom of Enderlin, ND; his children, Brock (Molly) Engstrom of Glyndon, MN; Courtney Engstrom of Enderlin, ND; Eric (Kelly) Engstrom of Kindred, ND; grandchildren, Keaten and Alexis Froemke, Griffin Engstrom, Samantha Engstrom, William Engstrom and Elizabeth Engstrom; siblings, Joanne (Chuck) Wagner of New York Mills, MN; Dennis (Sheryl) Engstrom of Frisco, TX and Doug (Sondra) Engstrom of Moorhead, MN; numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Enderlin Summer Youth Baseball.
