Lois Steinborn Obituary

Lois Steinborn passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, May 9, 2021 at the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon, 4 days after her 98th Birthday.

Lois Irene Jensen was born May 5, 1923, in Bartley Township southwest of Hannaford, ND. She was the second child of Chris and Martha (Herreid) Jensen. Her early years of education were spent at the Bartley Township school. She graduated with the Class of 1941 from Hannaford High School. Lois attended Fargo Business College and then borrowed $60 from her family to buy a train ticket West.

Lois and her dearest lifelong friend, Lois Basaraba, boarded the train for Seattle. When they arrived at the King Street Station, the two women were immediately met by a recruiter from the Boeing Aeronautics Company. Without delay, they hired on and served alongside many others as a “Rosie the Riveter” during the war effort. Lois continued her work on and off with Boeing until her retirement in 1990.

While at Boeing, Lois met Ronald Clair Neave. They married on May 17, 1946, in Seattle. From this union 3 children were born, Ronald, Lori and Lisa. Ronald’s employment with Boeing took the family on many adventures living in Washington, and various locations in North Dakota and Montana. Ronald passed in the fall 1978.

In 1991, Lois reunited with classmate Harold Steinborn at their 50th High School Class Reunion. They married on June 19, 1993. Harold and Lois resided in Kent, WA and Surprise, AZ before relocating to the North Dakota Veterans Home at Lisbon in the spring of 2012. Harold passed in 2016.

Lois was so proud that she lived in the Basic Care Unit of the Veterans Home for 9 years. The last few months, her health deteriorated, and she made the move to the Skilled Care area. She was fun, feisty and fiercely independent.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Marian Misegades, by her husband’s Ronald Neave and Harold Steinborn, her step-daughter, Linda Lambert, her nieces, Janis Anderson and Kathryn Neave, and great-nephew, David Micklewright.

She is survived by her son, Ronald Neave of Kent, WA and daughters, Lori (Steve) Schimming of Enderlin, ND and Lisa (Peter Bordwell) Neave of Missoula, MT. Lois is also survived by her step-children, Steve (Cheryl) Steinborn of Park Rapids, MN, Kyle (Kari) Steinborn of Breckenridge, MN and Tamara (Keith Evenson) of Park Rapids, MN. Her 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, nephews, Paul (May Ann) Neave of Lopez Island, WA and Richard Anderson of Surprise, AZ also survive Lois.

The family would like to thank the staff at the ND Veterans Home for the excellent care Lois received as a resident. We could not have asked for more.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North Dakota Veterans Home Activity fund in Lois’s name, NDVH PO Box 673 Lisbon, ND 58054 or to the charity of your choice.
