Maurene Bock Obituary

Maurene G. Bock, 89, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away February 13, 2021 at Eventide Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo.

Maurene Gladys Miller was born on June 12, 1931 in Fairmount, ND to Harris and Inez (Burvee) Miller. She shared her birthday with her twin brother, Miles.

Maurene graduated from Lisbon High School in 1949. Her yearbook quote noted a characteristic Maurene maintained throughout her entire life: “She’s a good scout.”

After graduation, Maurene received her teaching certificate, and began teaching in a one-room school in Ransom County, eventually moving into the Lisbon Public School system where she taught middle school – mostly in the fifth grade. She loved her students, and they loved her.

On May 29, 1955, Maurene married Jerry Bock in Lisbon. They raised two daughters, Jodee and Patricia.

Maurene continued her teaching career, but took time off when her girls were born, returning to the classroom when Jodee started first grade. She taught during the school year and attended Valley City State College during the summers, and earned her bachelor’s degree in 1971. She retired from teaching in 1993 after more than 40 years as an educator.

In addition to her teaching duties, Maurene and Jerry owned the Lisbon Ice Cream Store where many high school students started their work lives, and where Maurene spent summers and weekends cooking and serving. Never one to sit still, after she retired from teaching, Maurene joined Jerry where both worked at the Coast-to-Coast hardware store (later True Value Hardware).

During her time in Lisbon, Maurene was active with Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML). She also loved attending plays and musical events, and she and Jerry also enjoyed camping and following Lisbon Bronco sports.

In February of 2016 Maurene moved to Eventide Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo.

Maurene was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, her parents Harris and Inez, her sisters Ione (Bud) and Vera (Lyle), her brothers Eugene (Dorothy), Gregory and Gordon, and nephews Gordie and James.

She is survived by daughters Jodee Bock of Fargo and Patricia Martin (Larry) of Fergus Falls, grandson Logan Martin (Hanna Braun), granddaughter Codi Martin (Ben Storm), and step-great-grandson Holden, her twin brother Miles (Jeanne), sister Vesta, and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lisbon. Visitation is Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. with a time of sharing at 7 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Lisbon.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude for the wonderful care Maurene received at Sheyenne Crossings and from the Hospice of the Red River Valley. If desired, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice (1701 38th St. S. Suite 101, Fargo, ND 58103), or by choosing to do a kind deed in memory of Maurene.
