Nora "Norann" Carter Obituary

Nora Ann (Larson) Carter, Lisbon ND, was born on November 5, 1929 in rural Owego township, ND to Henry and Bertina (Opheim) Larson.  She was the sixteenth child and was proud to be the baby of the family.

Norann attended grade school at Owego School where she met her Ernie. She moved to Oakes ND with her sister Mamie’s family to attend high school.  She moved to Lisbon in 1946 and graduated from Lisbon High School in 1947.

Norann and Ernest Charles Carter were married on June 15, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisbon.  They celebrated 69 years of marriage.  During the early years she learned to drive truck and help with their farm animals. Niece Marvel spent much time with them especially when they lived on the little place.   Norann and Ernie’s lives and home were filled with extended family.  Gardens and flowers beds were plentiful (and she wasn’t happy when the pigs would get out and dig in the flowers). The basement fruit room and freezer were filled with produce that fed the family.  They resided east of Lisbon until moving into town in October 1983.  Following Ernie’s passing on September 29, 2016 Norann resided at Prospect Manor until she moved to Luther Memorial Home in Mayville in June of 2020.  She received amazing care from the LMH staff and Hospice of the Red River Valley until she passed onto her forever heavenly home on October 16, 2020 to be reunited with so many loved ones and friends.

Norann was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church; member of Homemakers Club, birthday club; a volunteer at Ransom County Fair, and a Cub Scouts Den Mother.  She and Ernie served as foster parents to young children.  She worked as a CNA and volunteer for hospice of Red River Valley.    She loved to visit and share baked treats. If you ever ate at Norann’s you know placemats were always required.  She watched “the stories” better known as soap operas and then discussed them with her dearest friends; did embroidery, needle work, loved to read and do picture find puzzles.  Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  All of her grandchildren will forever have very fond memories of grandma as she loved to play with them and have them come visit.  Into her late 80’s, she would get down on the floor to play, tickle and giggle with them.

She is survived by daughters: Pam (Clark) Soholt, Cynthia (Brian) Prochnow and Mary (Kyle Sletteland) Lundy; along with 13 grandchildren: Aaron (Billie) Soholt, Danielle Soholt, Jacob (Maria) Prochnow, Brianna (Corniche) King; Alyssa (Thomas) Sorum, Adam, Michael, Levi, Isaac, Catherine and Ella Prochnow, Emery and Ivan Lundy-Sletteland.  5 great grandchildren:  Kain and Kase Soholt, Jaxson and Madison Prochnow, Oliver King.  Sister in laws: Lois Carter, Karen Wilke and Ruth (Curt) Eberhard along with numerous nieces and nephews and many special Godchildren.

Norann and Ernie were Winter Texans in McAllen for more than 30 years where special family friend Maria and her son Randy reside. Ruth and Curt, thank you for giving them the extra winters at their beloved winter home and all the help throughout the years.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest; son, Tom; along with 15 older siblings: Louie, Pete, Julian, Julia, Mamie, Ella, Freda, Anna, Alfred, Signe, Nora E., Hazel, Mae, Emma and Ole.

Those attending services at the church are required to wear masks.

Norann's service will be on the website shortly after her service.
