Vernon “Popcorn” Adolph Thompson, 96 of Lisbon, North Dakota died Friday, December 20, 2019 at Beverly Anne Assisted Living, Lisbon, North Dakota under the care of CHI Home Health and Hospice.
Vernon was born on May 3, 1923, the son of Adolph and Hazel (Peterson) Thompson in Lisbon, North Dakota. He was raised in rural Lisbon, where he attended Casey School. Vernon was united in marriage to Lorraine Weisenhaus on December 17, 1947 in Wahpeton, North Dakota. They made their home in Bale Township southwest of Lisbon, where they farm and raised their two sons, Jerry and Dave. Vernon continued to farm until retiring in the fall of 1989, when they moved to town. During his retirement he worked at Lewis Truck Lines for a few years.
Vernon served on the Bale Township Board, church council and on the elevator board. He enjoyed visiting with friends at the elevator and was part of the birthday club. Vernon also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and snacking on an occasional which may consist of popcorn, black licorice, sugar babies and some chocolate. He cherished time spent with his family and friends.
Vernon is survived by his two sons, Jerry (Ellen) Thompson and Dave (Phyllis) Thompson both of Lisbon, ND; five grandchildren, Pete (Jen) Thompson, Lucy Thompson and Garret Thompson; Shane (Heather) Olson and Denise (Dwayne) Clewell; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; brothers, Georgie Thompson and Galeyn (Marcey) Thompson both of Lisbon, ND; sisters, Elaine (Lynn) Melby, De Lores Wolf and Bev Vandrevec all of Fargo, ND; Gladys (Ronnie) Fredrickson of Phoenix, AZ, numerous nieces and nephews.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lorraine (2016), grandson, Barry Thompson, brothers, Gerald, Layton and Virgil Thompson.
